Is the fungus Dothistroma septosporum unicellular or multicellular?
Does the bat Pteropus alecto hibernate?
Are both platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) genders poisonous?

Once a species is studied, these type of questions should be relatively easy to answer, but not all of them are. In fact, usually researchers working with a species know all about it, but do not know any proper channel to share this information in a binary computer(&parsing)-friendly format. We encountered problems when looking for simple phenotypic information about some species. Thus we developed Traitpedia, a collaborative repository to gather many traits for an increasing number of species (currently 684 species; last updated on 2nd October 2019).

You can query the entry of any species in the Traitpedia by using as query its TaxID, Species name or Common name.

e.g.: "9606", "Homo sapiens", or "Human"

You can alternatively query the database by trait, instead of by species. By selecting a trait from those available, you will get a table with the current information stored for that trait for all the species in the database.

Contact information

The information provided in this database is extracted from literature, Wikipedia, EOL and from your contributions. If you detect that any information in any of the entries of the Traitpedia is incorrect or could be commented or complemented in any way, please contact us.
The idea behind the Traitpedia is to make it grow with your inputs; therefore, we need you! We kindly ask you to help us and fill in this table for your species of interest. This information will provide us the necessary information to create an entry in our database. Furthermore, use this file if you detect that any of the information in our database is incorrect. We will correct it as soon as possible.
Similarly, we would like to expand our current set of traits per species. Recommendations are welcome. We will take them all into consideration and include new traits in each page as we receive them.
